Volunteers ready to greet guests during out first time participating in the Open Garden Squares Weekend.

We had a great time last Saturday at Dorich House Museum, Kingston Hill and Knights Park, as the University sites and our neighbor the Hogsmill Community Garden were the first sites in Kingston to take part in the newly expanded Open Garden Squares Weekend.

The weather was hot, and the flowers and pollinators were out in force.

We received some lovely feedback about our gardens and especially the Hogsmill Community Garden which was the secret garden in our set.

From the visitors feedback, it would have easily won best in show for the best showing of flowers across our collective sites. This amazing community garden works hard to create a beautiful garden which supports butterflies and bees.

They always need more regular volunteers to help them. If you have ever wanted to learn more about gardening and would like to learn from passionate gardeners with more experience, this is the group for you.

During the Open Gardens event, we saw lots of  damselflies out in force around the pond at Kingston Hill - identity unknown. If you've ever wanted to learn how to identity dragonflies and damselflies, why not join us on two upcoming events.

The first one is an afternoon of free wildlife walks around Tolworth on Saturday 1st July.

On the 8th of July the University is hosting a Dragonfly training event run by the London Wildlife Trust (LWT)

The course aims to teach new teams of surveyors to identify and record Dragonflies and Damselflies to help update a London species atlas.

The training is free, all they are asking is for are possible volunteers to commit to monthly surveys. These often take between 11;00 and 15:00 and take place across weekends and workdays.

Find out more about the training during the event on the 1st of July, or sign up directly if you would like to survey the Kingston sites. Sign up by emailing LWT  wfw@wildlondon.org.uk and let them know that you want to get booked onto the Dragonfly training at Kingston University on the 8th.
