The continuation of our Rhodo bashes with the Duke of Edinburgh and KUBAG volunteers |
We had another great turn out at our December rhodo bash, allowing us to continue our efforts to uproot rhodo from the Kingston Hill site.

Hi ho, Hi ho, its off to bash rhodo we go... |
|
Before works and work in progress |
This time, we concentrated on clearing an area to the south east of the meadow. Different teams split off to uproot stumps, cut back branches and process cut material for future processing.

The following before and after photos show what was achieved on the day.

We cleared enough rhodo to create two walls of cut rhodo between these trees - before the walls |

I wanted to thank the team again for their hard work during very cold conditions.

We also found another team working away on the down-low, helping breaking down dead wood...

Team wood rot! |
Some of the Duke of Edinburgh students, who have been volunteering with us for over two years though the Environment Trust, are now at a point where they have achieved their Gold Award - Congratulations!

As a few are moving on to other activities I wanted to extend a special thanks to those who are finishing up for all of their hard work over the past few years including Ruby, Roshni, Joseph and John.
We have our last rhodo bash of the season on Saturday 13th January 2018. If you would like to volunteer, email
biodiversity@kingston.ac.uk before the 9th of January with your phone number and any dietary allergies (we provide snacks on the day :) ).
Til next time.
